U.S. national government

U.S National government was formed in 1789 based on the principles of federalism and republicanism. Powers were given to both the state and federal government. The state government has the power to ratify amendments, manage public health and safety, oversee trade within the state, and power over education. The federal government has the power to coin money, declare war, conduct foreign relations, and oversee foreign and interstate trade. They both share the power to make and enforce laws, tax, and borrow money. Now the federal government is organized into three branches; executive, legislative, and judicial. All of the state governments are modeled after this structure. All of the power in this three branch structure is granted by the Constitution. Each branch is broken down with different power. The executive power is appointed to the President. The congress is the legislative branch and consists of the senate and the house of representatives. The judiciary applies and explicate laws.

Anna Fonseca

I feel very strongly about this topic and agree with what your discussing. It's truly a disgrace that our president is openly fighting for immigrants to leave our country. Maybe he could help people with unfortunate situations in different countries to find a way to be legal with a law that allows people to enter if they meet a certain criteria, maybe make the process easier and the rules greater so that people did not feel the need to have to illegally enter our country. The people of America have been fighting for an open mind on many topics for years and I feel that creating a wall for travel verses creating a new law is going to create a divide in peoples minds. Instead of being innovative and creating a united nation Trump is letting division be the new face of America.

U.S. National Government and why it's needed

Why do we need U.S. National Government? Yes, some may think it's an outdated system but all things need structure to achieve great success. America needed structure 240 years ago and that first attempt at structure was known as the Articles of Confederation which was effective for nine years. In those years the Articles of Confederation defined the powers of the federal government and the 13 states. This was a big achievement for the U.S. but there were still countless inconsistencies which created a weak federal government; no regulation on trade or levied taxes, tariff wars, debt, etc. So the states drafted the U.S. Constitution which allowed even more structure and has continued to be a "living document" throughout the last 200 years. I think the failure of the Articles of confederation is a perfect example of why we desperately need a strong National Government. Without it we would could have no coin moneywar without regulation, no control over conducting foreign relations, and improper foreign interstate trade. It's also a privilege that the Constitution can be amended as times change and generations evolve all because we have a strong National Government in place.

John Aravosis, blogger for the America Blog website, writes about our GOP Rep. and how he has stated no concern that millions will lose their healthcare coverage due to the changes Trump wants to make. This is cold and frightening but people like John will continuously bring these huge and important changes to light and because of that I feel that John Aravosis is taking a libertarian stand because there is no positive feedback on Steve Millers apathetic attitude. Also John Aravosis has a history of writing about the Democratic party and being an advocate for civil rights. He is the founder and executive director of America Blog. So, with that being said I believe that this post is most definitely highlighting how insensitive our new GOP Rep. is.

In The Monitor Ben Rosen shares his opinion about PBS and NPR becoming privatized in order to build a wall in between Mexico and the United Sates. Many wouldn't think of this as a huge set back but a number of parents and one particular seven year old, Toby Smith, see this as a discriminatory move.
It's remarkable that Arkansas's town hall meeting did not get the opinion of a parent but of a seven year old boy. Toby was so moved by PBS Kids he stood in front of a large crowd just to protest his passion for this T.V. station.
The claim is that T.V. and radio no longer contribute to informative news because there are so many sources in this millennial century but PBS supporters beg to differ and believe programs like PBS and NPR still provide suitable new coverage that is beneficial.
I personally grew up watching PBS and still watch it now for informative documentaries. I think this argument could seem trivial but to those who have all grown up with PBS and NPR have some connection to the knowledge these stations have provided to the masses over the decades. Let's not build walls, let's educate and grow.

There are many things that will begin to change with Donald Trump as our President and one of those changes has already begun; all undocumented immigrants convicted of a criminal offense will be the first of the undocumented citizens to get deported. A woman by the name of Guadalupe Garcia de Rayos who has been living in the U.S. for over 2 decades was convicted of a crime in 2009 and now seven years later she has been ripped away from her family because of her crime. Guadalupe has created a life here, "The Land of The Free", and now her freedom is lost. Who knows when she will see her family again? I don't know... and I don't think many people know either. Deportations like this are already happening and they will continue to happen. This article is necessary to read because America (Trump) is tearing family's apart, not just convicted felons; people.
